Could Consistent Inflammation In Thumb With Sharp, Painful Area Be Bone Spur Caused Due To Constant Massage Work?

I m having consistent inflammation in my thumb, which has been sorely overused due to years of doing deep tissue massage work. There s an area that is hard, fairly sharp, and painful from the knuckle to the corner of the thumbnail, on the lateral side. Is an x-ray the only means to determine whether this is a bone spur?
