Could Clonazepam Cause White Spots On Face?

I have a kind of white spots, mainly two big round areas on my cheacks, and a little darker or brownish skins in my beard + some areas in my beard appears hearless, small white spots... I m taking clonazepam since 6 months; I wonder if it is related to this medication or to the increase of stress in my daily life? also to note that I m not taking any dairy products since almost 1 year due to my recent discovery of intolerence to caesine; is there any link with my diet to the white spots?

Hi,

Clonazepam belongs to the drug group called Benzodiazpines. It is used to treat anxiety, sleep disorder and in some conditions to control onset of seizures. As far as the details are available, allergic rash to the drug is noticed in some of the patients using Clonazepam. Skin discoloration is not noticed to the significant extent. Skin hypo-pigmentation as you mentioned might be due fungal infection.

Excess fungus growth on the skin causes discoloration with white and dark patches. Topical anti-fungal creams are helpful to correct the patches. Sun exposure is the other cause for hypo-pigmentation. Sunscreen may help to prevent UV exposure and helps to avoid abnormal patches. Visit a dermatologist for specific treatment depends on the cause for hypo-pigmentation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
