Cold, Cough, Blood With Sputum, Foul Smell From Throat. What Is The Condition?

I am a 36 year old woman and I am getting cough with cold frequently. Recently I noticed that on waking up and when I coughed two to three times, after three times when I spit, I found blood. Next two days also I noticed blood. After that when keenly observed, I find foul smell coming from the throat daily in the morning. What may be the reason for this condition? Please answer my query.

Hello

Thanks for writing to H.C.M. for your query.

I have gone through your query regarding cold, cough. blood in sputum and fowl smell in sputum. Your all these features indicates that you are suffering from respiratory tract infection which is involving nose and sinuses, pharynx, larynx and lower tract.

Blood may be comming out from infected mucosa which becomes fragile due to infection, fowl smelling discharge may be fluid draining out from sinuses as post nasal drip and smelling bad due to infection.

For treatment you should do-

(a) C.T.scan of paranasal sinuses.

(b) Culture and sensitivity of throat swab.

A thorough examination and clinical co-relation of inferences of investigations one may reach to proper diagnosis that may be accordingly manage.

Regards.
