Chronic Cough And Shortness Of Breath, Cloudy Patches Seen In Radiology Report. Any Medication ?

Chronic cough and shortness of breath started about late-Nov 2010. In Jan 2012 went to doc. 1 z-pak subscribed. X-rays taken. Radiology report: very good. Although I seen cloudy patches. Since I had the cough so long, I decided to go back, ask for another z-pak. He agreed, but said no more. Cough subsided about 95%, shortness of breath about the same %. Now cough is back and shortness of breath. Since infections (if it is one) grow immune to antibotics, should I try another drug? Other info: Born with mild asthma. Went away when I was about 1-yr-old. Never could run long distance well. Smoked for 24 yrs. Coughing attacks began in 1992 (dry cough, no blood/mucus) Got worse and worse - EXTREMLY BAD by Summer 1998. Quit smoking in Dec 1998. I'm 52 yrs-old.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I went through your statement. I assume that you are suffering from chronic obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Your past smoking, repeated LRI and birth asthma may also be the reasons.
You need CT Thorax and a consultation with a qualified pulmonologist for further management.
Best wishes
