Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

I can understand your dilemma. Hernia is protrusion of the intestines from an abdominal opening. This swelling should be evident to you.

If the doctor is suspecting appendicitis then observation for a couple of hours and a battery of tests should confirm or exclude it. The investigations are:
1. Hemogram.
2. Ultrasound of whole abdomen.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your son an early recovery.
