Child Tackled By Other Kids While Playing, Looks Pale, Vomiting, Headache. What To Do?

10 year old son plays football. Yesterday he was tackled by about 6 kids that landed on top of him. He said when he opened his eyes he saw some stars. He acted normal the rest of the day but in the evening time said he didn t feel good. Today he woke up feeling fine and ate/drank normal. Went with a friend to basketball and said he wasn t feeling well again. Coach said he looked pale and then vomited a lot. I got him home and he has a temp of 100.0, HR-92 strong/regular, BP-120/70, Pupils - PERRL at 3mm. He keeps saying he has a bad headache that won t go away. I gave him 2 Ibuprofen (200mg tablets) at about 1800 hrs and they didn t seem to help. His brother just got over the flu with temp, vomiting , and diarrhea and I am trying to figure out if his complaints are more from the apparent oncoming sickness or a possible concussion . Any recommendations....

Welcome to HCM!

Going through your question carefully I feel that you must take your child to a neurologist or to ER, get an MRI Brain done. He has symptoms suggestive of injury to brain- immediate black out, later vomitings, looking pale, headache and little rise in temperature, and no relief in pain with normal pain killers.
Only after proper investigations one can pinpoint the diagnosis.

However, I don't think he has any injury which is untreatable, as he was other wise not having any movement complaints.( not mentioned in query ). Once you tell the symptoms he had, in sequence, to the treating doctor in ER, he would surely help you.

I hope that your child gets well soon.
