Child Suffering From Viral Infection, Diarrhea, Diaper Rash. Took Amoxiciliin For Ear Infection. How To Cure?

My granddaughter is a year old and suffering from what the doctors keep calling a viral infection for over six weeks now. It started as an ear infection treated with amoxicillin foir 10 days. Her symptoms are ranging from diaarhea with severe diaper rash to having a temp of over 103 for the last two days. Blood work was done a week ago and was normal we were told and she was check yesterday for a UTI with a straight cath collection which was negative. What can we do? Could something else be making her sick?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,thank you for your question to HCM.Usually, viral infections,URI may last for not more than 5-7 days and if any infection goes beyond 1 week, secondary bacterial infection or other causes should be looked for, particularly in your grand daughter as the duration of the illness is over 6 weeks. You said it started as an ear infection which was treated with Amoxycillin for 10 days and subsequently developed diarrhea with severe diaper rash with increasing temperature for the last two days suggest some infection other than viral and the diarrhea with rash may be side effect of Amoxycillin or it may be parenteral diarrhea.Hence,i suggest you to consult immediately a Pediatrician for further evaluation and management to avoid complications and sequelae.
