Child Hit Head With A Fall, Got Drowsy. Does She Need To Be Checked?

My 7 month old grand daughter fell off my bed onto a tile floor. She hit the back of her head and got drowsy afterwords trying to sleep. I kept her awake and gave her a bottle, she didn t vomit any of it back up. But its close to bedtime so she is sleepy anyway, should I take her in to get checked? Her eyes are not dialated either.

Hi ! It is good that you are so concerned and have done some pre liminary examinations of the baby. It is possible that it is a normal sleep for your grand daughter, but also the first thing to get disturbed in any significant head injury is the level of consciousness of the person. So you have to watch the level of consciousness in your grad daughter by frequently trying to wake her up. In case of slightest doubt on the level of consciousness, you should consult your treating doctor, who may advise a CT scan for the baby to exclude any space occupying lesion/any significant head injury. Vomiting and pupillary signs are the next after the change in level of consciousness. Take care.
