Child Has Fever. Platelet Count Is 1.3. Has Throat And Ear Pain. Not Eating Properly. Solution?

Dear Sir

My Daughter is sufferring with fever for last six days. Her platelet count dropped to 1.07 but raised to 1.3 lakhs/cumm after one day.

I have consulted the doctor and he said that there is nothing to worry as it is at 1.3 in a 10 year old. My concern is that she is having throat pain and ear pain and also not eating her food properly which has caused her to be very weak.

She has on and off fevers and throat pain, lookind forward to your valuable thoughts on this....

Regards

ENT Specialist Dr. Vaishali Mehta's  Response
Hello,

Welcome to HCM.

I understand your concern regarding low platelet count in your daughter. But if she doesn't have any bleeding tendency and the counts are on the rise following the fever, you don't have to worry. Regarding the throat pain, which is associated with fever, she could be suffering from recurrent tonsil infections. The ear pain could be a referred pain from the tonsils. I would advise you to get an ENT examination, and further needful. If she is having recurrent infections, she would benefit with removal of tonsils. This will be decided by your doctor. Hope this helps answer your questions.

Kind Regards,
Dr Vaishali Mehta
