Child Has Dizziness, Rotating Eyeballs, Appetite Loss. Given Medicine For Vertigo. What Is Wrong?

My little nephew who is 11 years old has ( since Thursday) having bad dizzy spells, eyeballs rotating, he can not focuse his eyes, and then can not walk because he is dizzy, he is not eating and barely drinking. His mother took him to the Hospital in St. Anne de kent, kent Co. New Brunswick, Canada, I went with them. They were visiting from Nova Scotia. The Doctor said my nephew ( Malcolm) had Vertigo, and gave him a precription. he also have him gravel and fluids intervensely. We left the hospital and then they went back home to Bedford Nova Scotia. I was told later that Malcolm's skin colour was green on the drive home. Today he is no better and his mother his taking him to an outpatient clinic and then on to the Issaac killiam Hospital in Nova Scotia. Do you have any idea what can be wrong with Malcolm? He had to have a wheel chair when we went into the Sl. Anne Hospital.

Hello
Thanks for the query
Rotating eye balls with dizziness can be due to vertigo. Rotating eye ball in medical term is known as nystagmus. This nystagmus can be due to abnormalities in brain or due to some other problem.
Nystagmus usually associates with balancing problem, dizziness and nausea.
Thorough investigation is needed so that to exclude the nystagmus due to brain abnormalities.
If brain causes are excluded then it is due to the peripheral cause which usually responds well to the medication.
So I would suggest you to consult a doctor to find out the cause of the nystagmus and dizziness by thorough clinical, laboratory and radiological evaluation.
Regards
