Child Has Been Nauseated. ENT Has Given Keflex And Tylenol. What Is The Reason?

My 2 YR old grandchild had T& A last Mon. She is having nausea. She will consume approx 5 - 15 cc at a time of liquid, and refuses all types of the recommended liquids and foods for post OP. Her ENT did give her Keflex due to
her cont temp of 101 - 103. He also gave her tylenol w/ codeine which I feel, may be part of the reason for nausea.. We have tried to encourage and force her to drink . no fever now but she is unable to rest at night due to hunger, nausea, pain ? Please advise

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Yes, nausea may be due to codeine.

Some times drugs also cause nausea because of drug induced gastritis.

Give antiemetic like ondansetron to stop nausea in prescribed dose.

Acid decreasing agents like lansoprazole may be given for shorter period to decrease the gastritis component.

Consult the doctor for prescription of medication.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
