Child. Swelling In Penis. History Of Bug Bites Followed By Hives And Redness In Penis, Reduced With Benedryl Intake. Serious?

My 6 year old had a few bug bites on him 4 days ago and he started getting hives. We have been giving him Benadryl the last few days and they seemed to be gone. Today we noticed that his penis was swollen and red. We gave more Benadryl and the redness went away, but the swelling did not. The swelling has us worried (it's been over 8 hours) and were wondering if we should take him to ER tonight or if it can wait until tomorrow. YYYY@YYYY

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

It could be part of that allergy. I suggest you should take him to the ER particularly if he has any breathing problem or cough.

Your doctor may prescribe antihistaminics and calamine lotion application after physical examination.

Hope this helps.

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
In my opinion child might have develops phimosis ( partial due to retention of fluid).
As physical examination by a doctor will find out the reason at once .
Consult your G P and relief within 1-2 hours.
Good luck.
