Child. Moon Face, Fatty Abdomen, Fat Looking Like Breasts Along With Headache. History Of Steroid Injections To Scar From Surgery To Prevent Keloid. Advice

My 9year old daughter received steroid injections to her new scar from a recent surgery to help prevent keloid. About 4days later I noticed she has a "moon face" and in her abdomen area it looks fatty and she know has the beginning of what looks like breast. It's been almost a month since the injection. She also suffered a headache last week that last over a period of 3 days. I was reading about Cushing disease and pituartry gland tumor. Is this possible?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
The moon like face of your daughter, abdominal obesity, along with headache is suggestive of an endocrine disorder most probably Cushing disease.
Cushing disease is caused by increased secretion of hormones (mineralocorticoids and glucocortocoids and sex hormones) by the adrenal cortex.
The pre-mature breast enlargement can be due to sex hormones. The abdominal obesity can be due to accumulation of fat in the central region of the body.
This increased secretion can be due to a tumor of the adrenal cortex or tumor of the pituitary gland.
The steroid injected for the keloid is unlikely to cause these effects.
You need to consult your endocrinologist.
Blood levels of ACTH will determine whether the growth is in the pituitary region or in the adrenal cortex.
A X-ray of the skull will help to determine any growth or tumor in the pituitary fossa.
Management involves removel of any tumorous growth.

Thanks and take care
