Child. Continuous Vomiting, Dark Urine, Loose Stools, Decreased Appetite, Extreme Thirst. More Liquid Intake. Signs Of Heat Stroke?

Hi, on Friday I picked my 3 year old up from daycare. They had been outside playing on a super hot day. She kept telling me she was thirsty. She ended up vomitting 7 times that evening and contiuously asking for more to drink. She has refused to eat the rest of the weekend other than snacks & vomitted again last night at 3am. I know she was dehydrated because her urine was dark. But could she have had heat stroke as well? And how long does it take the body to recover from such things as heat stroke, dehydration? She also has had loose stools last night & seedy, loose stool this morning.

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

Apart from heat stroke it appears that your daughter has gastroenteritis which has caused the vomitings and loose motions. I suggest that you get your stool examined and better still get her examined by a doctor to assess if she is dehydrated.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your daughter an early recovery.

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

It looks like heat stroke or due to gastroenteritis due to a stomach bug.

I advise you to consult the pediatrician as early as possible to assess the child dehydration and to prescribe medication.

Keep on giving sips of oral rehydration solutions such as Pedialyte to maintain the hydration of the child.

Monitor her hydration status by activity, urine output, and skin turgor.

Consult the doctor as soon as possible.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

Pediatrician Dr. Y V Siva Sankara Murty's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

That could also be because of gastroenteritis.

Monitor for signs of dehydration.
They include
1. Decreased skin turgor
2. Increasing thirst.
3. Sunken eyes.
4. Irritability.
5. Drowsiness.
6. Decreasing passage of urine.
Oral rehydration solution or any other solution containing salt and sugar should be given.
Probiotics and Zinc prescribed by your doctor will be useful.
Antiemetics are required to control vomiting.
Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
