Can Underactive Thyroid Cause Discomfort In Ear?

Hi there I was diagnosed around a year ago with an underactive thyroid, I ve been on levothyroxine and my levels were improving and within normal range, recently my tsh levels increased a little but doc kept me on same mg and advised I would go back in 2 months. In between times I did see an ent as I was suffering jaw, neck and ear discomfort, not really pain feels more muscular and the ear feels like pressure, I also have clicking jaw and tightness in my shoulders, I suffer anxiety which doesn t help. Anyway ent done a thorough physical neck exam and confirmed I had no nodules or swelling. He thought more likely tmj. I was just wondering if underactive thyroid could cause some of these symptoms thanks

Hello,

No, thyroid disease does not cause any kind of a pain in the ears. You need to see an ENT doctor to examine you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
