Can Treated Bronchitis Cause Coughing Up Mucous After Food?

I cough up mucus several hours after eating, may last 30 mintues and then I am fine, I have some allergies to food products, could this be the cause? I had to start taking an acid med before eating to help with the reflux it was causing.Sometimes I get this bad taste when coughing, this has been happening for 3 years now. I had bronchitis in 2006 really bad, and ever since i have had a problem. I have been to the dr many times to get steriod shots, took all types of test, and now i am better, but still have the coughing sometime later after eating, is it the food? What my allergies are in food is everything I eat almost. What do you suggest I do?

Hello
Thanks for your query.
The possibilities as per your history are -
1. Food allergy
2. Gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD)
3. Hiatus hernia
For food allergy you can undergo skin prick test or specific serum IgE test to identify the possible allergens to avoid them or specific immunotherapy which may be sub-cutaneous or sublingual. For this consult a allergist. For GERD you need to have pantoprazole tablet 40 mg twice daily before food along with life style modification. You need to consult a gastro surgeon too to evaluate the possibility of hiatus hernia if the first two possibilities are excluded.
Thank you.
Regards,
Dr Arnab Maji
