Can Taking Mifepristone And Misoprostol Lead To Irregular Period?

My wife is 26 years old. we are married for 20 months. 1year back she conceived but we were not planning for kids, so we have chosen to abort and she has taken mifepristone+misoprostol under doctor guidance. After that everything was normal. Now, she is getting irregular periods. Doctor has suggested for a thyroid,vit-D tests. FT4=1.09ng/dl TSH=5.17 mclU/ml. We are waiting for vit D results also. What would you suggest for her regular menstruation. Thanks in advance, Doctor

Hi,

TSH is mildly on the higher side. Heavy bleeding could be due to hypothyroidism, endometriosis, endometrial hyperplasia or could be fibroid also. Pelvic scan has to be done to rule out all the anatomical changes. If we give her hormonal support then periods will regularize and get back to normal. This will take at least 3 to 6 months. She will become alright. Don't worry. There are lot of solutions for these, but before that we need to diagnose the cause.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
