Can Stomach Infection Cause Pain In Middle Left Side Of Back?

I have had pain in the mid left side of my back for the past several days. I had an ultrasound and was told that it showed positive for a stomach infection. I was asked to go back and have another ultrasound done to confirm it. What could be causing this severe pain. It hurts the worst when I lie down.

Hi,

The pain you are referring to be worst when lying down could be related to:
- stomach problems (reflux-GERD, gastritis)

You are having back pain also due to the same nerves passing to the stomach and lower back.

I'd advise to:

- avoid spicy, chillies, fried, fatty foods
- avoid carbonated, coffee, alcoholic drinks
- eat often and small portions,
- do not lay down immediately after eating
- do use 2 pillows when sleeping
- apply warm clothing to the stomach and back area and to your feet
- start taking otc antiacids and the medications as prescribed by your doctor.

All the best!
