I need to have a lipid profile test and glucose fasting..question is that since i am a smoker, can i have a couple of ciggarettes on the way to the test? Althought i will fast for 10hours, will my results be accurate. Also will it only effect lipid profile or also glucose fasting?
Smoking affects both lipid profile and blood sugar levels but only in the long run. Smoking a few hours before the test will have no immediate bearing on the test results. However, smoking is an independent risk factor for heart disease. So please try to quit or at least cut down as much as possible.
Best wishes.
