Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband is 37 and went through v tach almost two months ago where his heart rate stayed at over 220bpm for more than 30 min. There were no clogs in his arteries no known issues found. They put him on Pacerone 400 mg a day. Then about a week later he was dizzy and threw up blood. They lowered his dosage to 200 mg a day. Two days ago he went in for Intracardiac Electrophysiology study. The doctor came out afterwards and said he was perplexed. He stated normally he gives a patient one shot of adrenaline but gave him 5 and his heart didn t respond enough to see if there was anything wrong. He then stated it s not as if he is on heart medication. I then stated he was on pacerone according to his instruction and we called his nurse days prior to surgery to verify where she confirmed. The doctor stated it wasn t on his chart yet we brought the medication with us and told the nurse. The doctor then stated he didn t believe it would have affected the outcome and provided us with two options. One do nothing which he wouldn t recommend or the second is have an implanted cardiovascular defibrillator. Later we left the hospital it stated for him to continue 400mg of pacer one instead of 200. I ve read about this medicine where the pure purpose is to keep the heart rate down and it builds in your system over time. My husband has been taking pacer one for two months. I feel as if the doctor was covering up a mistake where perhaps he should have been off the medication for this procedure. I think it s extreme to go from a day surgery to carrying something implanted for a year on a 37 year old. Any suggestions?
