my sister is prescribed methadone because doctors just don't seem to want to treat her pain any other way ... she wakes up with severly swollen & discolored legs, ankles & feet and is starting to have symptoms of diabetes ...are these typical reactions to methadone? ... are they complications with her Hep C?

Hello,
Your doctor prescribed your sister methadone which is an opioid analgesic used to treat severe pain.Methadone does show some side effects in some people but what your sister is having like swollen ,discolored legs, ankles, feet can be due this medicine but its very rare. And even it less likely to show diabetes like symptoms ,infact it may show decreased urination, decreased apatite.
Secondly hepatitis C can may be associated with some other disorders and even diabetes also.
So my suggestion is consult your doctor about these symptoms in details so that he may diagnose it properly depending on the severity of problems.
Hope this helps.Take care.
Thank you.
