Can Low BP Cause Fever, Aching, Lightheadedness And Nausea?

Hello, I am 60 yrs old, soon to be 61. I would say in very good health except for a knee problem. I started with a uti on vacationing in Florida and started on Sulfa, as I already had some. As it didn t seem to help, which is surprising, as it always does, I went to my family Dr., of whom I also work for. He said my urine was clear on the scope. A culture was not done. He therefore put me on Flagly for diverticulitis, which I have had before and actually went to the ER in Fla. last year while vacationing. I have been on Flagyl for two days now and I still have fever, aching everywhere and being lightheaded and nausea. I took my blood pressure and it was 97/78 with pulse of 148. My blood pressure is usually much higher than that,as I have BP meds to take. I took it again, thinking it was a mistake and it was then 100/76 with pulse of 145. Wondering if this could correlate with anything else? I am now drinking a bottle of gatorade in case electrolytes are out of whack, as I have not had an appetitie at all. Would appreciate your opinion. Thanks, Penny

Hello Penny!

Welcome on HCM!

I carefully passed through your question and would explain that would explain that your symptoms seem to be related to an infection.

It may be a complication of diverticulutis, or any other type of infection.

But the fact that your blood pressure is low and you have tachycardia indicates a serious medical condition.

For this reason, I would recommend going to the ER for a physical exam and some tests:

- a chest X ray study
- an abdominal ultrasound
- complete blood count, PCR, ESR for inflammation
- kidney and liver function tests
- blood electrolytes.

You may need to take antibiotics and intravenous fluids.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
