Can Intestine Be Too Longer And Will The Surgery To Reduce Heal Itself?
I had a bowel resection 6 years ago when my small intestines had twisted so much and had been twisted for so long that it became dead tisuue. Needless to say they removed 3 feet of my small intestines. A couple of years later taking note of the symptoms I got into surgery where they only had to untwist the intestines. The surgeon at that time saud that created LOTS of adhesions in the hopes it would not happen again. However, this past year I developed a prolapsed rectum that needed to be repaired. When the surgeon got in there to fix it he attached part of it to my tailbone. He also removed 2 feet of my colon. He noted that my colon and intestines are almost twice as long as they should be. He also had the records from my precious surgeries which left him perplexed. After only 3 years since the first surgeon had made all of those adhesions, they were none. They had all healed themselves. So, my questions are is it rare for one's intestineand colon to be so much longer that others? Secondly, is there any explaination as to why the adhesions would heal themselves like they have?
Enlarged small intestines or colon indicative of a disease entity that is less innervated hence do not move properly and get enlarged. Another reason may be some connective diseases and so on, hence, the biopsy of the removed segments of small and large intestines is a must to know the exact cause.
This may not be correctible as the primary cause may not have a definite treatment and surgery from time to time may help. This is a very special and rare disease and you need to consult a tram of Gastroenterologist and Surgical Specialists to know the exact diagnosis and have proper treatment.
Also, alter the diet to suit you the most. Regular enema and laxatives with motility regulating medicines may help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
