Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

If you are having trouble with metformin in such doses, I would be guessing that you have been developing hypoglycemia or low sugars. Personally, I would not have stepped up the dose of metformin so drastically. I would have gone slow. And stepped up the dose slowly, like 500 mg- 1000mg- 1500 mg- 2000mg. But I guess your doctor got worried due to high HbA1C.

As for cutting the tablet, I dont think thats necessary. If you have the bill, most pharmacists are happy to replace the medicines. In case you have to use it, know that yes you can cut the tablet. It is said that you should not because the division is not exact. So you will be getting different doses.

If you are planning to change the dose, I think you should let your diabetician know as well.

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.
