Can Dryness Cause Nose Bleeding

Hi--lately my 18 month old son has been having bloody snot in his nose. There are no actual nosebleeds (he has never had one), but rather, what appears to be some crusted blood in the nose or blood tinged snot--not excessive, but definitely there. I will be taking him to the doctor soon to check this out (and check his general health) but do you know what might be causing this? My husband and I are wondering if it has to do with the dryness of the air. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Crust in the nose is due to dryness. When you try to remove that crust, it causes little trauma when you try to remove that, blood seen in subsequent crust formation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
