Can Cough And Phlegm Symptom Of Bronchitis?

. I had a cold back in November for at least 3 weeks. Then I get better, now it is back. I am having itchy cough, little phlegm, no fever. No pain in the chest. But when I cough recently, it was so severe, that I wanted to vomit each time I cough. Will this be a sign of a serious bronchitis problem/ pneumonia? I have taken a cough suppressant, but how long am I supposed to eat this? Do I have to go for a lab test?

Hello,my name is dr Dorina Gurabardhi.Welcome to HCM.Your concerns are related to chest infection. Most bronchitis cases are caused by viruses. Some advices that I can give to you are:
-getting plenty of rest
-drinking lots of fluid to prevent dehydration and to loosen the mucus in your lungs, making it easier to cough up
-treating headaches, fever and aches and pains with painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen
-drinking a warm drink of honey and lemon to relieve a sore throat caused by persistent coughing
-raising your head up with extra pillows while you're sleeping to make breathing easier
-use an air humidifier or inhaling steam from a bowl of hot water to ease your cough
-stopping smoking
-Antibiotics are recommanded. You can with amoxicilline 500 mg twice a day for 7 days, also vitamin c.
If it gets worse you should see your local doctor so maybe you can have an xray and analyses.Hope my answer was helpful. Thanks!
