Can Anlagesics Be Given For Cold And Congestion While Being On Clonidine For Autistic Child?

My autistic granddaughter is proscribed Clonidine HCL 0.1mg 1 ½ tablets at bedtime.
She is currently suffering from a cold with congestion and I need to know if there are any analgesics that I can't give her to help her breath and in particular sleep at night without coughing?

Hi, thank you for posting at HCM.

Your granddaughter can use analgesic like Paracetamol(Acetominophen) 20mg/kg(body weight).
This medicine is used in different forms like syrup, suppository or tablet, dependent on her age.
Analgesic is used only for relieving pains, and for lowering high temperature.

But to relieve respiratory routes I recommend Salbutamol syrup 2mg/5ml.
For children from 2-6 years old, the dose is 1mg as 2.5 ml of syrup three times daily.

You should take her to a pediatrician to check her health condition and to determine if antibiotic is needed. He also will determine the exact dosage for Salbutamol.

Regards.
Dr. Behar.
