Hello, I can imagine your frustration. Here are the basics of an IBS diet according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics: Make all changes gradually and keep track of what changes help and which ones make you worse. 1) Eat small, frequent meals on a schedule;2) Eat low fat foods, no fried foods; 3) you can drink almond, soy milk, but the milk sugar lactose may be poorly tolerated;add yogurts with active cultures to help bowels and calcium intake 4) our manual says to increase fiber gradually, I have found it however, to cause my patients to have more gas; 5) cook vegetables and use canned fruit - no fresh vegetables or fruit if a lower fiber diet makes you feel better; 6) assure 6-8 glasses pure water; 7) for a lower fiber diet check lables for less than 2 gm. fiber per serving; with low fiber diets choose white bread, white pasta and cream of wheat 8)limit anything that may bother your heartburn if you have this along with IBS. You may get a balanced diet on these restrictions. Have I guided you sufficiently to get set on a meal plan? Thank you for coming to HCM. Kathy Shattler, MS,RDN
