Can Gabapentin Cause Persistent Headaches?

I am taking gabapentin 300 mg before bed for nerve damage in my thigh after a back/hip injury. My injury occurred 3+ weeks ago and I began to take the gabapentin on July 24th. The last few days I ve been plagued with a persistent headache that I can t seem to shake. Do you think it is the medication? I know this is not a big dose, but do you think lowering it would help? It has been helpful with the nerve pain. Also, how long does it take for nerves to regenerate themselves?

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us,

I have read your query and I would advise the following:

I will advise you to do EMG-NCV[Nerve conduction study] for duration of nerve recovery.
Yes it can be due to Gabapentin, you can reduce dose of Gabapentin.
Nerve regenerate at 1 mm per day.

Change your diet and remove inflammatory foods such as citrus fruits, dairy products and wheat that may aggravate peripheral neuropathy. Simultaneously increase your intake of potassium and calcium-rich foods such as bananas and avocados and green leafy vegetable.
Vitamin B12 is important in the maintenance of health and normal functioning of the nerve tissue and deficiency of it can lead to numbness. You can increase B12 level by taking meat and fish, or you can take Inj methylcobalamine.
Continue your medication for gout.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care
