Brown Spotting When Wiped. Taking Ortho Tri Cyclen, Sprintec. Should I Be Concerned?
I have been taking Ortho Tri Cyclen for 8 months, once switching to Sprintec and back. I always take my birth control on time, once I took it within two hours and have gotten my period by the third day of the placebo week regularly. This month I noticed that there is some brown or light red spotting only when I wipe. Should I be concerned? I only have sex once a month with my husband and we also use another backup method- he wears a condom and pulls out everytime
Hormonal pills can cause intermenstrual spotting as a side effect. Usually this will subside soon without the need of medication. If there are no associated symptoms like pain abdomen, dyspareunia etc. no need to worry. If the spotting continues or increases in quantity better to consult gynecologist once and get examined to find out the cause. If no other local problem is detected, additional dose of few hormonal pills can correct the problem.
