Born With Wet Lung. In The Head-box. Is This Normal?

My nephew is born 5 days ago with wet lung. He was ok in 48 hours and they took him out of the kuvoz. Yet after that in 24 hours his heart beat is around 70. The doctors said his lungs X-ray is normal and he is reacting to the infection. Yet they put him inside a headbox. This is his 5th day after birth. Is it normal? Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.
I can understand your concern.

It is not normal. Some times babies get infection because of various reasons.

X-ray, CRP, CBC, etc help in diagnosis.
If infection is confirmed antibiotics are given to treat infection.

Oxygen may be given till baby is stable.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

It is very normal for infants to be kept in "headbox" (oxygen hood) by which oxygen is being given to your nephew. I presume that by "kuvoz" you mean ventilator and he is responding to the management and that is why he has been removed from the ventilator and put in the oxygen hood.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your nephew an early recovery.

Welcome to HealthCare Magic

Hope you are doing good. As you have mentioned few things it seems like your nephew have bradycardia 70 per minutes. usually neonate have 120-150 heart beats in 1 min. The headbox maintains a stable concentration of warm and humidified oxygen that is titrated to achieve the desired oxygen saturation.

In Simple your nephew has RDS ( Respiratory distress syndrome ) that is why they have kept him in head head box to maintain oxygen saturation and he is respond to the treatment given to him.

Its not normal usually babies at 5th day are at the lamp of there mother if they develop any kind of disease they are shifted to Neonatal Intensive care Units for further management.

I hope have answered your Query , Feel free to ask if you have any Query. Wish your nephew good health.
Regards
