Blood In Urine, Difficult And Painful Urination. Common In Elderly Women?

Hi, a friend of mine (female, age 64) is having the following problems :
blood in urine (like urinating blood)
acute pain in urinating
difficult in urinating.
The first time happened last month and it went away then it happened again last week.
She consulted a doctor and was told not to worry as this is common in elderly women, is this true?
Please advise. Thank you.

Hi Winne,
Thank you for posting your question here, I will try to answer it to the best of my ability.

I am surprised your doctor said that, because I have never come across anything that said that its common older women to have blood in their urine (hematuria)
I recommend you see another doctor, the causes for hematuria are many, but they are seldom life threatening, the major causes are-
stones
injury
kidney infection
cancer of the kidneys

But to find the cause some tests will need to be run, including a urine analysis, cytoscopy and maybe a CT scan.

Once the diagnosis is established the treatment will be planned out accordingly.
