Bleeding ear

Last night I went to bed, and within a few minutes I felt an almost flush feeling in my ear. I got up to look in the mirror and had blood running down the side of my face coming from my ear. I tried to clean it and soaked up approx. 10-15 q tips, before it seemed to be clean. Went back to bed within 5 minutes it happened again, mire blood running from ear. If I put a q tip in my ear now there is still some bood but not as much as before. I haven t had any injury, haven t been exposed to loud noise, no flights, scuba, swimming or other pressure or temp changes. Was not picking or cleaning it, and only used q tips after it started bleeding. Also no pain, although now does feel a bit like I have been swimming and got water in my ear but I haven t. Any idea what might be causing this? Thank you in advance for an help -Maggie

Maggie, is your ear in pain? Get it checked over by a doctor it could be something with your eardrum? Or too much pressure on the ear.

Hello, welcome to Healthcaremagic. The episode of blood from ear is of great concern and should not be ignored by you. You must visit an ENT specialist to rule out any local pathology in ear which could be due to infection. You might also need to undergo a CT scan of head. Do you normally have high blood pressure? In episodes of high blood pressure there can be bleeding from ear in case of rupture of blood vessel. You should not wait for appointment and go to ER. Wish you good health.

Hi Maggie,
Welcome to HCM.
You may be having a polyp in the ear.
You should not ignore this. Consult an ENT surgeon right away and get your ear examined. With the aid of otoscope, the ENT surgeon should be able to identify the cause for bleeding and manage it according to the findings.
Wishing you all the best.

hello

welcome to health care magic

thanks for proper history...by taking a careful medical history and by examining the ear under an operating microscope. The ENT may need to clean clotted blood from the ear canal, and at times it is necessary to place a patient on eardrops for a while to soften any hardened blood that may be present.,, bleeding from the ear is usually not serious, but it may also signify something very dangerous, even life-threatening. Prompt evaluation by an ENT should settle your concerns.

take care
