Black Callus On The Side Of Toe, Diabetic, Left Foot Painful, Corns On Top Of Toes. Remedy?

Hi, my mother (71) has a black callus? on the side of her second toe, on both feet (Between 2nd and 3rd). She says its only painful in winter. She is a diabetic. Not sure how long it has been there but has not yet seen a Dr.
She has bunions, her left foot is very painful -ball of foot. Both feet have hard skin build up in this area. She also has corns on top of her toes.
How can I make her more comfortable?

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
It is the thickening of outer layer of skin.
It is due to prolonged rubbing.

Black colour is due to recurrent small bleeding between normal skin and thick skin.
In some patients, there is a crack and the skin may separate.
This may lead to infection.

As your mother have diabetes, very prone for infection.

Black callus can be treated by removing of the thick layer of the skin with help of doctor.
Modification of footwear may essential to prevent recurrence.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
Regards.

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.

Since diabetic and 71 year old, always prevention is better than cure. For the problem she has and also to prevent any further complication always ask her to wear MCR chappals, daily morning and evening clean her foot with soap water . Immerse feet in clean water for half an hour after washing and dry it completely with cotton cloth. If there is any break in skin or wound you should not immerse in water for long time. Adhere to your drugs and maintain weight. If its a fungal then need to put antifungal ointment. Better if you can put its photo to diagnose and for appropriate treatment. Hope I answered your question. Consult your doctor for further examination and management.
Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries.
Wish you good health. Take care.

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Since your mother is a diabetic patient so peripheral neuritis ( neuropathy ) is very common among diabetic patient .
The black " callus" is a part of complication of diabetic foot .
Consult a Diabetologist and get his opinion and treatment , if possible conservative ( drugs).
If no cure with drugs , than opt for surgery .
Now for wart due to hard skin , you may use podophyllum& salicylic paint.
Keep in mind regulation of blood sugar level is very important .
Good luck.

hi,
get treated for callus ASAP, as this may cause vasulopathy to callus and hence gangrene of the limb. this is important as she is diabetic.
bunions have to be managed conservatively by massage with oil.
wishing her good health.
