Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
From the description, it seems you are saving male pattern baldness or androgenetic alopecia. The prescription provided by your doctor is a standard treatment protocol for this pattern of hair fall. Minoxidil solution 5 percent and finesteride 1 mg tablets are US FDA approved for the same.
The response to the treatment depends upon the area extent and duration of involvement. The results are best in central or vertex involvement of scalp with area of involment less than 10 cm square and duration being less than 5 years. I would advise that you follow the prescription provided by your doctor. It takes almost six months to ascertain the response of therapy provided. Initially in the first two months usually the hair fall stops and hair growth begins. The response to therapy usually stabilises in an year.
Hope that helped.
Take care
