Baby Not Passing Stools Regularly. Is It Safe To Keep Dulcolax. How Much Water Should Be Given?

My 7 month and 3 weeks old baby boy is not passing stools on a regular basis. We have started on semi-solids along with Breast feeding from past 5-6 weeks. He is also having 3-4 ounces of water daily. Still whenever he passes stool it will be once in 2-3 days and that too with lot of discomfort. Today he hasn't passed stool for almost 5 days. Is it safe to keep Dulcolax suppository 5mg(infant)? How much water should we give him to keep him hydrated?

Dear user, It is quite usual for infants to pass stools once in 2-3 days sometimes even after a week. On the other hand it is also quite normal if your baby passes stool 2-3 times a day as long as he is not having diarrhea.
Personally I have a 4 months old baby and she does the same. I have never used dulcolax suppository. Although infant dulcolax suppository is safe when administered once in a while , I would prefer plain glycerine suppository over dulcolax.
during weaning period change in bowel habit is very common so don,t worry.
And yes no need to give water to your baby if he is on breast feed till he becomes 1 year old as breast milk is usually sufficient for hydration.
take care.
