Are There Side Effects Of Switching To Nebistar 2.5 From Seloken 25mg?

HI, Im a 53yrs male. I have been taking Seloken 25 mg for the past 9 months to control my BP. Recently, I went to another doctor who recommended I switch my medicine for BP to Nebistar 2.5. Is it safe to make this switch? What are likely side effects if any. Thanks

Hi,

Nebistar and Seloken are both beta blockers and are used to help treat high blood pressure, angina and heart failure. Seloken 25 mg contains Metoprolol. Side effects of Metoprolol are drowsiness, insomnia, bradycardia, decreased sexual urge, edema, depression, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, bronchospasm, cold extremities, chest pain, headache, confusion, orthostatic hypotension, thrombocytopenia etc. According to your description, you have recently visited a new doctor but you haven't mentioned here the exact reasons for your visiting.

Your new doctor may choose Nebistar 2.5 mg for you instead of your currently using Seloken because of judging your present clinical complications and think that Nebistar will be the right choice for you. Nebistar 2.5 mg contains Nebivolol. Side effects of Nebivolol are headache, dizziness, unusual tiredness and weakness, diarrhea, increase in body fat and cholesterol, difficulty in breathing, weight gain, burning, numbness or tingling in the arms and feet, decreased blood pressure, allergic reactions etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician
