Are There Any Chances Of Getting Communicable Diseases After Male-to-male Sex?

Yes...thank you. I found out that my husband has been sexually active with other men for years unprotected. I sent him to the health department to be tested for STDs and HIV. He was negative, but is it possible that he could have any communicable diseases that have not showed up yet?

Hello,

Some sexually transmitted diseasesight have a window period that differs from disease to disease. The window period is the time from infection to when the infection is detectable. Generally all these disease have a window period 3 months or less so a repeat of the tests in 3 months will be more reassuring.

The tests that need to be repeated are HIV, syphilis, Hep B and C.

On the other hand some diseases like Chlamydia and gonorrhea can be asymptomatic especially in men and NAAT test is the most reliable one but not 100% so sometimes just prophylactic treatment with single dose ceftriaxone 250 mg and single dose azitromicine 1 g is recommended for all partners.

You will need pap smear with HPV detection to make sure the uterine cervix is OK.

I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards,
