Are Painful Heavy Periods And Dizziness Post Childbirth A Cause For Concern?

After the birth of my second child.i have been having very heavy periods. I am passing clots the size of quarters to golf ball sizes, followed by a rush of blood. Took all the tests, blood work fine. Now I m getting dizzy and I m in so much pain I at my wits end. I m seeing an up tomorrow . What should I ask him? How do I get him to take me seriously? This has been going on for five years.

Hello,

Since you are having a history of painful heavy periods since five years, You should be concerned. Now you are getting dizziness as well. You are suggested to get blood for Hb% done to detect if you are anemic. If the reports are positive for anemia, it should be investigated which type of anemia you have.

In the meantime you are suggested to take food rich in iron, calcium & protein. You can also take iron supplements orally. Get USG(Uterus) done to detect cysts, polyps, fibroids. If USG tests are positive you will get treated either by medicines or surgery(if required).

Neglect will lead to worsening of the symptoms. Heavy periods with pain can be indicative of Endometriosis. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
