Hi, I m trying to find out if I have a problem with my ear but it is complicated to explain. The problem has been present for many years and I am not sure if it is linked to my migraines. I do not have any pain however, if I plug my nose and blow to equalise air pressure my left ear is fine but the right ear is delayed in doing so. Further, that feeling of air blowing through your ears (which I assume is from forcing open the eustachian tube) can only be done with my left ear. My right feels almost blocked but not painful. I have tried wax drops and irrigation however I wondered if it could be a middle ear complication
This is simply because the tube is not opening up with Valsalva. This is called Eustachian tube dysfunction. The causes can be in the nose or sinuses and adenoid area. This can be diagnosed by ENT examination. Nasal endoscopy and related investigations like MRI or so if required will a proper diagnosis. It is advised to get a course of oral and nasal decongestant, steroids if there is no diabetes, anti-inflammatory. Take a full course and stop doing Valsalva. Take steam inhalation. Avoid fumes, dust, allergens that cause nasal congestion.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
