Any Suggestion For Having Ketones In Urine For Diabetic With Little High Sugar Levels When On Low-carbohydrate Diet?

I'm on a low-carbohydrate diet and I've been testing my ketone levels and I'm experiencing a trace amount in my urine. I'm a diabetic and my sugar levels have been a little high but they have been going down since I've started this diet but my ketone levels are still at a trace is this because I'm on the low-carbohydrate diet?

hi and thanks for asking in HCM forum. Ketone bodies in urine may happen in diabetics specifically more common in type 1 diabetics and this is called diabetic ketoacidosis. It occurs when the body cannot use sugar (glucose) as a fuel source because there is little or no insulin. Fat is used for fuel instead. This may also be seen in fasting, low carbohydrate diet as u r taking now, starving. in diabetics carbohydrate restriction is adviced but should not restrict it completely. I advice u to consult your treating doctor and he may put u on insulin injections for strict control of your sugar levels. Regards
