Ankle Injury, Bump Formation, Painful. Used Ace Bandage And Ice Pack With Aspirin. Continue Treatment?
I rammed a heavy duty shopping cart into the area 1 1/2 inches above the ankle on the inside of my rt. leg. It happened three weeks ago and I treated it with ice for three days and then heat. I also used an ace bandage. There is still a bump slightly protruding about the size of a small bouncy ball. The area still swells and feels tight. At night is burns me when I go to bed. I am taking effient and aspirin for my heart stents. Should I quit treating it and see a doctor or continue wrapping and elevating when I can?
Based on your description and symptoms, I suspect that you could have suffered a Subperiosteal hematoma (blood clot just beneath the outer layer of bone). This hematoma is a bit slow in resolution when compared to a soft tissue hematoma.
This usually will heal spontaneously within 4-6 weeks without any consequences. Keep continuing the treatment you are following like Limb elevation, heat application and a compression bandage over the swelling.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
