Dear Doctor

I was advised by specialist Istamet 50/500 one tab daily after lunch and dinner when I was diagonised a blood suger level of fasting 199 and PP 283 about a year back on 30.7.2012. After one month the fasting sugar level came down to 121. After three months the blood sugar level came down to fasting 112 and , HBA1C 6.2 on the same medicine and dose. Now my sugar level as on 13.7.13 are as follows.
Fasting 115 and HBA1C 6.1. But during this last one year body weight reduces from 70 KGs to 64 KGs and i became quite thin.
i am a male 50 years old professional. I also take nebistar SA 1 tab daily after breakfast and tonact 10 after dinner daily . My pressure is 110/70 and lipid profile is
Cholesterol: .133

i am worried about my weight loss. I am on 1600 KCAL restricted diet.

Please advise whether I would continue Isthamet 50/500 twice daily or change the medicine or change the diet chart.tohigher calories.

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.
Since your sugar level, lipid and BP are controlled you continue the same treatment. Look for your BMI and if it is normal then no need to worry. You can adjust your diet accordingly. Your drug is known to cause weight loss. If you still concerned with weight loss and if it is below normal then can consult your doctor to change the regimen. Hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries.
Wish you good health. Take care.

Regards
Dr.Lohit

Hi Mr Sinha,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic,
You have Diabetes Type II, Hypertension and Dyslipidemia and taking treatment for it with diet restrictions.

If you are overweight then weight loss is desirable which helps in both reductions of blood sugar as well as blood pressure readings.

I am happy that your parameters are well controlled and your weight depends on your height to keep Body mass Index around 23 to 24.

You can make some minor changes in diet chart and discuss about supplementation of vitamin D and vitamin B12 to your treatment.

Please get periodic medical checkup FBS and PPBS every month and HBA1c every 3 months.
Please visit your Physician to adjust the dose of your prescription.

Hope this helps
Take care.
Good Luck.

Hello,
ISTAMET has SITAGLIPTIN and METFORMIN.
Both the drugs tend to cause little weight loss and hence you should not worry about it.
Your blood sugar levels are normal now and hence no need to either change the drug or increase your calorie intake.
It is good that person should be in his required range of his BMI.
Thanks
