33 Year Old Having Type 1 Diabetes. Infected Nail With Pus Formation. Can I Use Antibiotics By Myself?

33 y/o healthy female, Type I DM- hangnail since one week ago- noticed small amount purulent drainage (green) today that I drained and that my BS was elevated (390). No other systemic symptoms. Painful to touch but not locally red or overly swollen. Is it okay to watch closely and start using topical antibiotics for a couple of days before calling the MD- given of course, that there is no worsening of symptoms? Thank you!

HI
THANKS FOR CHOOSING HEALTH CARE MAGIC,
elevated blood sugar and discharge from wound strongly suggests infection
better to take proper medical care as soon as possible under the guidance of a doctor
meanwhile you may apply topical antibiotics
take strict diabetic diet
do not miss insulin and other medications
frequently get your blood glucose levels tested
even if it looks like the infection has decreased and discharge stopped,it is better to meet your doctor on the appointment date
do not neglect to go to a physician (atleast) if the symptoms worsens
if this is a nail on your toes (fingers of legs),try to avoid too much of activity
take care
hope i answered your query
feel free to contact me for further queries
thank you
