3 Year Kid, Suffering From Cough For 6 Months, Not Recovering Fully. Treatment?

Hello Doctor. My 3 year old son is suffering from cough from past 6 months. His cough is not severe. he does not have whooping cough. He is not suffering from any breathing problem. He sleeps well in the night. When we give him cough syrup, he recovers in 20 to 25 days but again after 15 days he catches cough. Only matter of concern is the cough is from the past 6 months and he is not recovering fully. Which medicine should we give and what is reason behind it. Please advice.

Hi.

It appears as though the cough has been the worst this time, this could indicate a seasonal factor.

It is impossible to advise you on treatment without diagnosing your child. In such a situation I would advise you to consult a child specialist or a lung specialist. If there is any sputum produced, analysis of the sputum would greatly help.

In the meantime, conditions like asthma, hypersenstivity reactions, etc; could be assumed. Please visit a doctor and do not experiment with medication until he is diagnosed.

Hope this helps.

Take care.
