23 Years Old Just Found Out That He Has Diabetes. Is There Any Complete Cure ?
my son who is 23 years old just found out that he has diabetes , he doesnt know what type yet, but he ended up in the hopital with a 700 blood sugar a few days ago, i know that he was drinking excess amounts of those energy drinks and taking mega-metabolife could this have been the cause of the diabetes onset?

Diabetes are basically of 2 types ,type 1 where it is because of insulin deficiency and type 2 which is because of insulin resitance . both of them are not caused because of any drinks though they might increase the sugar levels .
I feel lookin at his age and sugar levels he falls into type 1 where he would require insulin for treatment . one important thing is that he did not land up with diabetic keto acidosis which is a complication of type 1 diabetes .Be in contact with ur diabetologist and get hba1c levels which would help ur doctor to give you better control .

These drinks are not the cause for initiating diabetes. Is there any family history of diabetes. If a person is diabetic and never got himself tested then these sugar based drinks can increase the level. He call for proper investigations care and regular treatment along with dietary restrictions.

Your son's age points more towards type 1 diabetes which will need Insulin forever, right from the first day. But type 2 diabetes in this age is not very uncommon these days.
What is his weight? Is he lean or overweight?
In what condition was he admitted in the hospital?
I dont think, those drinks could be the only cause of his diabetes. 700s sugars definitely makes one very thirsty(polydipsia). Maybe he was drinking them as he was thirsty.
How is he now? What medications is he taking? Please keep us updated.
