13 Weeks Pregnant, Dark Cloudy Orange Urine, Sweet Smell, Pain Near Kidneys. Kidney Infection?
Hi yes I m thirteen weeks pregnant and a couple weeks ago I noticed my urine had turned a dark cloudy orange and taken on a very overwhelming sweet smell. My doctor said it was from dehydration so for the last two weeks I ve litterally drank an 8 ounce glass of water for every hour I m awake but no change and now I m having pain near my kidneys. Could I possibly have a kidney infection?

Yes dark cloudy urine can be a sign of urinary infection.
The chances of infection are more as you now even have pain in the abdomen.
Any urinary infection in pregnancy should be taken care of early as it can lead to complications like abortion or premature delivery. Also if left untreated can lead to spreading of infection to the kidneys (pyelonephritis) and sepsis.
So you should get your urine microscopy and culture tests done. Antibiotics to be started according to the reports.

I have gone through your case scenario and i don't think you are having any kidney infection.
Fruity smell of your urine could be attributed to free ketones in your urine and if you are not diabetic then you shouldnot worry as this is a common finding in pregnancy . Sometimes some patients are on multi vitamins and if they di not keep adequately hydrated they do pass deep yellow or like in your case orange colored urine. Please follow your doctor's advice and try to keep yourself adequately hydrated. Regarding your pain near kidneys it needs proper evaluation and examination so please go back to your doctor and discuss with him about this problem. Please get ultrasonogram done for lower abdomen with special attention given to kidneys and adenexa to rule out pelvic pathology . Hope i been able to help you with your queries. Take care
