Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Breast milk 3 times per day is sufficient around this age group as you are giving complimentary feeding in addition to breast milk.

If you are comfortable, you can express the breast milk by manual or syringe pump methods to express the milk and this milk can be given to the child in your absence.

Breast milk is a good source of milk and this is sufficient to maintain normal calcium levels.

You can introduce cow's milk after the age of 1 year.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

HI,
thank you for using health care magic..
ideally baby should be only on breast milk till 6 month.. here your child is 11month so continue giving diet which you are giving like rice water etc.. if possible increase frequency of breast feeding.. ideally it shoul be given on demand of child.. if you are working women use breast pump and store breast milk in refrigirator so that it can be feed to child even if you are not at home.. you can also start formula , you can give diluted cow milk.. dilute it with water.. dont feed your child by bottle insteat of that feed yout baby with spoon.. DO NOT GIVE MILK BY BOTTEL .. bottels increases chances of infection no matter how many times you wash in plus it prevents proper development of jaw and proper alingment of teeth.. it also causes bubbling sensation in child's stomach and causes false sensation of satiety in child...

Pediatrician Dr. Emmette Clark's  Response
There is no reason you need to start cow's milk or formula at his age as most children that age are already weaned from the breast but since he is getting calcium from your breastmilk he is fine for now. Once he stops nursing you will want to add either cow's milk or just make sure you are giving him foods with added calcium such as cereals and juices with calcium added.

Dear friend,

You are doing great! There is absolutely no need to supplement with top milk to give calcium. As such. animal milks are not as appropriate as calcium available from mother's milk and natural foods.

So, relax. You are doing great.

Dr. Taher

P.S. There is no need to dilute orange juice.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Congratulations for breast feeding your baby.
Continue to breast feed your baby. It is ideal to continue it till 2 years of age.

Ragi, milk all are good sources of calcium. Continue to give ragi. Give him extra milk for a good calcium intake.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.

Hello,
Thanks for query to H.C.M. Forum.
Frankly I would say all these things are enough and three times breast feeding is the best for 11 month old.
Cow's milk is good for child as fat contents are enough for 11 months old.
Keep in mind over feeding is not good .
Good luck.
Dr. HET
