Hi.
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor"service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.

This is a transveginal ultrasound scan report and seems very much accurate.
The possibility of a mistaken diagnosis is very unlikely.

It shows nebothian cysts.

Cervical glands secrete mucus which accumulate and forms cysts called nebothian cysts.
Nabothian cysts are quite common.
They aren't precancerous nor pose any threat to your health.
They are not a sign of an impending cervical cancer nor increase any chances of cervical cancer.

Hope that I have answered your query.
If you have any doubts, please let me know.
Regards.

if there was a cancerous tumor in cervix would a pelvic ultrasound be accurate enough to pick this up and not mistake it with a cyst? Just worried because i have been reading alot if stuff on internet.

Brief Answer:
Nebothian cysts

Detailed Answer:
Hi.....
There is a rare variety of cervical cancer called Adenoma malignum(AM) with a very very low overall incidence rate (about 1%).
There is always an associated symptomatology like recurrent, heavy, prolonged menstrual bleed, mucoid vaginal discharge and bleeding after sex (Post coital), typically in a female of reproductive age.
A bulky, firm, ulcerating and fungating cervical mass is revealed on a pelvic examination.
Ultra sonography appearance may or may not be like multiple Nebothian cysts.
Cervical smear, histopathological examination and punch biopsy would reveal the malignancy.

You neither have a suspected history, nor your clinical examination points towards AM.

Nabothian cysts (also called mucinous retention cysts or epithelial cysts)are very common and benign and are considered a normal feature of the adult cervix.
Most Nabothian cysts are easy to diagnose and may be managed conservatively.

Hardly,Nabothian cyst present a potential pitfall in the diagnosis of cervical carcinomas.

Happy Living.
