Question: hello ,on 5th November I got high fever with body ache . on 6th I visited the doctor . he suggested me antibiotics :zedocef cv 200 & paracetamol XT- para .
Also suggested to go for a routine dengue profile & platelet count check up . but I did not have any rashes in my skin nor joint ache.
I did the test on 6th . Below is the test result :

Platelets count : 2.28 million --- reference range mentioned (1.5mn - 4 mn)
Dengue fever antigen NS1(MAC Elisa method) : 2.60 units ------- reference range mentioned (<9.0 is negative)
Dengue Antibody IgG :1.72units ------reference range mentioned (<9.0 is negative)
Dengue Antibody IgM :2.93 units --- reference range mentioned(<9.0 is negative).

My doctor suggested since the platelets are ok . It is not a dengue fever but I have some dengue infections . non reactive .
Doctor suggested repeated platelets count test & rest & plenty of water & paracetamol .
I have done 2 rounds of platelets test there after the result is more than 2 million .
I don't have fever now . but feeling a bit weak .

My query is :
1. it really a dengue fever or normal viral fever ? Why then the antigen value indicates it is negative . why it is then not nill?

Hi....
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.

As per your dengue profile, you don't have dengue fever.

You seem to have a viral illness.
A term "Dengue like infection"(DLI) is being used commonly for such viral infections which have a clinical picture and thrombocytopenia(decreased platelet count) similar to dengue but a negative test for dengue.

We all are exposed to multiple types of infections(antigenic variants) in our day to day life{Hence the antigen value can never be Zero}.
The test measures a specific "total" antigen load.

There is a minimum range of total antigen load which has a clinical significance and relevance (and indicates the active disease)
A value less than it is indicative of just a sub clinical exposure.

Hope that I have answered your query.

Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Yes....As per symptoms and reports, this seems a normal viral fever.

Features of viral fever include symptoms like severe weakness, easy fatigue, lethargy, bodyache and lassitude.
These symptoms usually persists for 7 to 10 days after the regression of fever.
You can shorten this duration by having a nourishing diet including plentiful of vegetables and fruits, keeping yourself well hydrated, taking commercially available preparations of multivitamins, taking probiotics, avoiding sleep deprivation and having rest.

Happy living.
